You’re Worth More Than Gold

You’re worth more than gold

But do you believe it?

It’s hard to feel like you’re worth something

When the world treats you like trash

When I was 417 pounds people stared at me all the time

They left mean notes on my car

Sometimes a man in a truck would yell out the window at me

Cuss me out because I was big

Now I’m a size 14

Not exactly thin but thin enough I suppose

Because suddenly I’m no longer stared at

That same man in the truck whistles at me

And it’s strange

My size apparently equals my value in some people’s world

It’s hard to feel like you’re not worthless when people treat you like you are

Living so many years as a very big person caused me to seek my worth in God’s opinion of me

Not man’s

Matthew 10:29-31
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s will. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

If God values the sparrows

Then how much more does he care for and value me?

And you?

The idea that God knows even the numbers of hair on my head is pretty amazing

Even if some of it falls out in the shower, he still knows how to re-tally!

God says you are worth MORE than gold!

And the truth is….you are!

I love this song out right now by Britt Nicole

“Worth More than Gold”

Here are some of the lyrics

So don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not loved.
And don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not enough.
Yeah, there are days when we all feel like we’re messed up.
But that truth is that we’re all diamonds in the rough.

How about that?

We are all diamonds in the rough

You are a daughter of a King

A princess!

That’s what you are

That’s what I am

It doesn’t matter if the people around you

The people on the street

The people who stare at you

Don’t understand your value

It doesn’t change the fact that you are a precious treasure

Just because someone else doesn’t see or understand that

Doesn’t make it any less true

Some people may never see beyond our weight

But guess what?

We are worthy and valuable and precious as we are

Even if we never lose a pound

Some people treat me differently because I’ve lost weight

It doesn’t matter

They are mistaken

I have no more value now as a size 14

Than I did as a size 32

My value isn’t tied to my weight

And neither is yours

So right now if you’re so big you can’t get out of a chair without help

Or can barely walk

Know this

You’re a beautiful and precious treasure

Loved and adored by Your Creator

And nothing can change that

So love yourself

Because He does

I do

So why shouldn’t you?

Strangely enough, this reminds me of a Christian version of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.”

I love that song too! One of my favorites. And you are so right, we have to depend on God’s view of us which makes us worth so much more than what man thinks of us.

People left you notes on your car? It boggles my mind sometimes to think of how much a person can go out of there way to be mean. Beautiful post.

Yes, God loves us just the way we are. And thank God for that! But the truth is, and even scripture says, that ‘man’ (men, people, us) looks on the outward appearance. That’s just the way it is. I always try, especially when going to church, to at least look presentable. It does matter…even if it doesn’t seem fair.
