Ice Ice Baby

December 19, 2011 in Uncategorized

So it’s raining again.

What a surprise.

Lately it’s always raining.

Every day I walk at least 3 miles praying I don’t hit a slick patch and end up face first in the mud.

I’m pretty sure the neighbors are hoping for the opposite because let’s face it–they want their money’s worth out of this show.

But I won’t let the elements defeat me!

It’s not like I’m walking through a typhoon.

What I battle more than anything are the voices in my head who say things like “Ooooh!! It rained again!! YEAH!! This means we don’t have to walk, right?? RIGHT??

Some days are easier than others.

I’m not really sure why but some days the same exact path seems somehow physically tougher than it was the previous day.

It’s the same hill but it seems steeper.

The same distance but it seems longer.

Today was one of those days.

I was just struggling.

Enter music.

I have songs I listen to when I’m walking.

Songs that motivate and inspire me.

My “playlist” that I have on shuffle while I’m out there dodging mud puddles and walking uphill trying not to cry because my thighs are on fire.

Today, however, something completely unexpected happened.

I’m getting ready to head up this hill and waiting for the next song to get shuffled through…the Rocky theme song maybe.

Something to power me up that hill and make me feel invincible.

But THIS I wasn’t expecting.

Apparently one of my kids had decided to add a new song to my musical repertoire.

I can always count on the kids to spice it up for me.

I should know by now to never let my guard down if I put the music on shuffle.

If you leave your phone laying around too long, you never know what might end up on your playlist.

In the past I’ve found myself enjoying a peaceful walk only to end up listening to the Doodlebops, Disco Elmo or yet another round of Justin Bieber.

But today I was heading up the hill and  this is what blasts out of my headphones:

I wasn’t expecting that I’ll have to admit.

But thanks kids for bringing 1990 back!

And yes I did make it up that hill.

Of course I had to rewrite the lyrics a bit to suit my own personal trials and tribulations.

Hope you like my version!

Just STOP—collaborate and listen.
Time to get rid of hypertension
Fat has got a hold of you tightly
Cholesterol rising daily and nightly
Will it ever stop?
I don’t know
Depends if you’ll shut the fridge and then go
Straight to the trash with the donuts and fudge
Then out to the street to walk in the mud

Fries!
Going straight to your hips
Killing your heart with those chips
Deadly when combined with no movement
Exercise could make an improvement
Like it or not
You’ve gained weight
You better make a u-turn
your health won’t wait
You know there is a problem
So let’s solve it
No more tomorrow to resolve it

Ice Ice baby
Ice Ice baby
Ice Ice baby
Ice Ice baby

And in my version the ice stands for ICE PACKS.

Oh ye blessed ice packs of which I could not live a day without.

My heart yearns for ye as I’m rounding that last block.

And lest any of ye think I look the least bit like that girl in the Nike commercial who just finished her workout…

think again…

I look like something the cat dragged in.

I also have no idea why I just slipped into Olde English.

The voices in my head just take over sometimes…
